WHAT IS DROP TESTING?

Drop testing is a critical reliability assessment that simulates the free-fall impacts products or packages may endure during shipping, handling, and accidental drops. This test is primarily conducted to evaluate and improve the robustness of product designs and the protective adequacy of packaging, ultimately reducing damage, returns, and costs in the supply chain.

As a leading drop test equipment manufacturer with over 16 years of expertise, CME Technology Co., Ltd. designs and builds a comprehensive range of drop testing equipment—from standard models to fully customized drop test machines—to meet global standards like ISTA, ASTM, and IEC.

HOW TO CHOOSE DROP TEST MACHINES?

01
KRD40 series zero-distance drop tester

KRD40 series zero-distance drop tester mainly simulates the resistance to drop and impact of large and heavy packaging products. It can realize the drop test of the edge, surface, and angle of the sample. This equipment is mainly used to evaluate the ability of product or packaging to withstand drops during transportation and loading and unloading, so as to improve product and packaging design.

02
KRD41 series small drop tester

KRD41 series small drop tester is suitable for free-fall tests of small consumer electronics and components.

03
KRD42 series double-lift drop tester

KRD42 series double-lift drop tester is mainly suitable for large size packaging products to resist drop impact performance, its powerful power system and unique sample support for easy loading and unloading of oversized, overweight items, and automatically rise to the set height, complete the drop test.

Precision Engineering to Meet Global Standards

IEC 60068-2-32: Specifically optimized for our KRD41 series, ensuring repetitive and accurate falls for unpacked electronic components.

ASTM D5276 & ISTA 3A: Our KRD40 Zero-Distance series features a unique pneumatic release mechanism, eliminating friction to ensure a true free-fall, as required by major packaging protocols.

Zero-Distance Technology: Unlike traditional swing-arm testers, our Zero-Distance design allows the specimen to be released at the exact point of impact, ensuring no rotational interference for heavy loads.

WHY DO DROP SHOCK TEST?

There are two objects for drop test method, one is the product without packaging, the other is the packaging product. The reason for performing a drop test for product or component is to evaluate the product design and materials robustness when it is exposed to a free-fall impact force. The purpose of performing a drop shock test for packaging products is to evaluate whether the packaging design is suitable, overpackaging or less-packaging, so as to improve the packaging design to save the cost & protect products.

FAQS OF SHOCK/BUMP TEST SYSTEM

How do you ensure the precision of the drop angle?

Our machines use high-precision guide rails and specialized corner/edge fixtures. This allows the operator to set the exact angle required by ASTM D5276 without manual error.

Can you customize the base plate for extra-large items?

Yes. As a direct manufacturer, we can customize the impact table size and material (reinforced steel or concrete-filled) to handle overweight pallets up to 2000kg.

What is the procedure of IEC 60068-2-32?

This test is divided into two procedures. The first simulates falls that a specimen, normally in the unpacked state, could undergo during handling and is normally restricted to two falls from a prescribed attitude onto a specified surface from a specified height. The second procedure simulates repeated falls that may occur to such devices as connectors or small remote

control units which are normally attached to cables during use. Repeated falls onto a specified surface from a specified height are achieved by using a suitable apparatus, e.g. a tumbling (rotating) barrel. To assess the effects on a specimen of simple standard tests intended to be representative of the fall likely to be experienced during rough handling, or to demonstrate a minimum degree of robustness, for the purpose of assessing safety requirements. This test is primarily intended for specimens not in their packing and for items in their transport case when the latter may be considered as part of the specimen itself.

What's the maximum height CME drop tester can do?

CME as one of the drop test equipment suppliers in China, offers the customized drop tester for a customized height, for the max. height for the KRD40 series we recommend not more than 3 meters. If there is a need for more 3 meters free-fall tests, we recommend Free Fall Release Hooks Drop Tester.

What's the difference between ASTM & ISTA standards?

Cost: ISTA is a lower cost

Test time: ISTA requires less test time

Testing Equipment: Older equipment can perform the tests by ISTA, Equipment costs less than with ASTM

Procedure: ISTA has more specific procedures

Can your machines perform tests on both product corners and edges?

Yes. Our KRD40 Zero-Distance Drop Tester and similar models are specifically designed to precisely release samples to hit prescribed edges, corners, and faces, which is a requirement of many packaging test standards.

What is the lead time for a custom drop test machine?

Lead time varies based on complexity. After we finalize your custom specifications, we will provide a detailed project timeline. Standard models typically have shorter lead times.
